Academic and Clinical Educator SIG
The purpose of the ACE SIG is to create a forum where individuals with interest and expertise in academic and clinical education can interact, share, discuss, and disseminate information related to the ongoing improvement of professional pediatric physical therapy education.
Adolescents and Adults with Diverse Abilities SIG
The purpose of the AADA-SIG is to foster the development of education, research, and practice in physical therapy that focus on the improving service satisfaction, health, quality of life, participation, and activity of adolescents and adults with developmental disabilities, or any chronic childhood disabling condition. Values operational in AADD-SIG include family-centered and person-centered care, self- determination, and dignity.
Pediatric Sports-Fitness SIG
This special interest group of APTA was formed in 1999 as a collaboration between the Pediatric Section and the Sports Section of APTA. The Pediatric Sports and Fitness Special Interest Group aims to be a nationally recognized forum and resource for education, training and research regarding optimal care delivery to pediatric and adolescent athletes. In reaching this goal the SIG will focus on three things:
Prevention, examination, and intervention of impairments in the child who participates in sports.
Training and fitness guidelines for the child who participates in sports.
Training, fitness and sports guidelines for the child with a disability.
Cardiovascular and Pulmonary SIG
Cardiovascular and pulmonary impairments are prevalent in the pediatric population. It is vital to combine the knowledge specific to the pediatric population with thorough understanding of the cardiovascular and pulmonary systems in order to ensure in high quality care for this population.
The Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Special Interest Group (CVP SIG) of the APTA Academy of Pediatric Physical Therapy provides a forum where clinicians, students, residents, and faculty can collaborate on research, education, program development, and treatments particular to this population.
Student and New Professional SIG
The Student and New Professional Special Interest Group (SNP SIG) of APTA Pediatrics aims to engage students and new professionals through outreach and community. We strive to promote advocacy of the pediatric physical therapy profession starting early in our careers. We work to create innovative events to get students and new professionals engaged and connected within APTA Pediatrics. We offer networking opportunities to raise awareness about the profession and current platforms. We foster the growth in our members to develop the emerging leaders of APTA Pediatrics through opportunity and professional development. We support our growing membership of students and new professionals by facilitating the transition from student to new professional, and ultimately to experienced pediatric clinician. The SNP SIG will provide a forum where members can network, collaborate, and share resources on topics relevant to students and new professionals.
School SIG
Mission: Engage, encourage and empower School SIG members to enhance their practice as school-based physical therapists in natural learning environments.
Vision: Providing high-quality physical therapy services for students with disabilities in our public schools, by employing research, education, and information based on scientific evidence. Advocating locally, regionally, and nationally for high-quality services for students with disabilities at school and life after school. Communicating and networking with other school-based therapists, academics, and researchers.
Hospital-Based SIG
The Hospital-Based SIG provides opportunities for networking and learning related to the practice of pediatric physical therapy in acute and intensive care, rehab, clinics, and outpatient services (hospital-based and free-standing). Our focus includes education and resources for diagnosis-specific patient management, including health promotion.
Early Intervention SIG
The purpose of the Early Intervention SIG is to provide opportunities for members who have a common interest in physical therapist practice in early intervention to confer, meet, share resources, and advance practice through excellence in advocacy, education, and research.
Residency and Fellowship SIG
The RF SIG provides a forum where prospective and current residency and fellowship faculty (ie, program directors, coordinators and mentors), residents, and those interested in residency education can promote excellence in residency education. The RF SIG provides collaborative opportunities for educational research, exploring opportunities for curricular development, enhancing resident clinical reasoning skills, and discussing resources available for assessment in residency education.
Neonatology SIG
The purpose of the Neonatology SIG shall be to provide forums where Section and Association members may confer, meet, and promote high standards of practice for Families and infants at high-risk for developmental disabilities in neonatal and Outpatient settings.
