The Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) is a dynamic environment. One that can place stress of the infant/family and health professionals. This session will describe the Infant- and Family- Centered Developmental Care (IFCDC) model-standards and competencies. It will emphasize systems thinking and its impact on IFCDC. Change theory and how it can be applied to culture shifts is presented along with strategies to move IFCDC forward. Emphasis on the infant/family at the center of our practice and why we must help them to survive and thrive. Are you ready to be part of the solution?

Learning Objectives:

Describe the key components of the Infant- and Family-Centered Developmental Care (IFCDC) Model.
Discuss how “systems thinking” impacts the implementation of IFCDC.
Outline strategies for changing culture in the NICU.
Discuss the importance of a team approach including the family in IFCDC implementation.
