Influencing Change: Governance and Advocacy in Action

Location: Ballroom D/E, 5th Floor, RI Convention Center
This open forum will include a summary of actions from the 2024 House of Delegates and APTA Pediatrics advocacy updates by Dr. Dawn James, APTA Pediatrics Chief Delegate and Dr. Maria Jones, APTA Pediatrics Advocacy Director. Following a brief presentation, participants will break into small groups to discuss how motions and advocacy updates impact pediatric practice and brainstorm ways to take an active role in shared governance and advocacy initiatives. The open forum will end with a Q&A with the presenters. This is an opportunity for all participants to provide input to influence the initiatives of the Academy of Pediatric Physical Therapy and APTA.

Learning Objectives:

  • 1. Explain at least one motion passed by the 2024 APTA House of Delegates and its impact on pediatric practice.
  • 2. Identify one mechanism for providing input to APTA House of Delegate motions or advocacy initiatives of APTA or APTA Pediatrics.
  • 3. Identify one barrier you face in pediatric practice that you would like to see addressed through shared governance or advocacy.
